Learn More About the Tobii Experience App for Windows 10
The new Tobii Experience app is currently available to Alienware 17 R5 users and we plan to roll it out further to select devices in the future. The app was made to bring you a better experience in terms of discovering our features and will be distributed through the Microsoft Store.
As the app is customized for your device, the content will be more relevant for you — there’s no need to find the correct bundle for your device or manually search for updates. You could say that it’s basically like an app on your smartphone.
How it works
We are working on getting our eye tracking devices to become Plug and Play (PnP), so drivers will automatically download through Windows Update, which triggers the installation of Tobii Experience from Microsoft Store. You just need to launch the app, set up your profile and you’re good to go!
To find the Tobii Experience app you go to the Start Menu — Type Tobii Experience and hit Enter.
One of the first things you’ll notice upon launching the app is that the app icon location has moved to a new spot. The Tobii icon will not be found in the Tray anymore and instead, after launching, you will find it in your Task Bar. Please note that it will only be present in the Task Bar when the application is running — if you want to keep it there, you’ll need to pin it.
Relevant notifications will pop up if you, for example, have a free game key assigned to your device.
Our new improved UI is also neater and cleaner to browse through. It’s been designed to give you a better overview of all of the features that Tobii Eye Tracking offers and to give you space to learn more.
We have also worked hard on improving the out-of-box experience so you can seamlessly get started using eye tracking. The application will be automatically installed when a compliant Tobii Eye Tracker device is detected, launching the application that introduces you to eye tracking and sets up your profile all in one go. When that’s done, you’re all set to start exploring all the features.
The app will be available in the Microsoft Store, so users need to be running Windows 10 with Fall Creators Update (1709) or later to be able to download and install it. Earlier versions of Windows 10 will prompt you to update Windows before you can install it, while Windows 7 and 8.1 users will stay with our Tobii Core Software which you can find on our website.
Alienware 17 R5 users are first ones to get the new Tobii Experience app, but we plan to make it available to other select Tobii Eye Tracking devices in the future.
If you’re not sure what software your device supports, we keep an updated list on our help page to clear things up.
Update (January 2019): After listening to feedback from our users, we have decided to postpone the launch of the Tobii Experience App for the rest of our Tobii Eye Tracking customers. If you’re interested in trying it out, stay tuned and we‘ll let you know once it becomes available.
