Esports gamers

Every day at Tobii, we work hard to find new and innovative ways to bring the extraordinary power of eye tracking to gamers everywhere. In particular, the unique insights and performance improvements gained when players can understand how they prioritize their attention and how effectively they are processing visual information.

We have the opportunity to take the work we love so much and partner with companies like Alienware and Mobalytics (some of the most exciting PC Gaming and Esports companies on the planet) to talk about the technology and bring it to the world is like a dream come true. These key partnerships represent the chance to make a meaningful mark on how competitive gamers train, compare skills, and continually improve.

Analytics in Esports

In 2020, Tobii and Mobalytics formally launched the world’s first eye tracking analytics offering that enables League of Legends players to use their visual attention to improve their skills and rank up. The collaboration is working so well that we’ve commenced adding eye tracking analytics capabilities to even more exciting titles. I am pleased to share that this year, we will be collaborating with Mobalytics to add eye tracking analytics to VALORANT! We will be providing more information about the availability and timing of the update over the coming weeks.

Of course, an eye tracker is required for players to take advantage of eye tracking analytics. The good news is that, Tobii launched the latest version of its eye tracking peripheral, the Tobii Eye Tracker 5, which was designed exclusively for gamers.

The main advantage of the Tobii Eye Tracker 5 is that it has improved head tracking and faster gaze recovery than previous generations (such as the 4C). Gaze recovery is particularly crucial in Esports because now when a player looks away from the screen quickly, the eye tracker can re-acquire their gaze almost instantly. You can learn more about the Tobii Eye Tracker 5.

Additionally, Alienware has recently launched new versions of its popular gaming laptops, the Alienware Area-51m and the Alienware m15 and m17. Each of these designs represents some of the most powerful gaming laptops that have ever existed, and all of them offer the latest IS5 version of Tobii’s eye tracking technology.

If you check out these videos, you can see that Tobii and Alienware are going way beyond simply putting eye tracking technology in new notebooks. Still, more importantly, we are working together to tell the story of why understanding visual attention matters so much in competitive gaming and why both companies are working hard to bring this kind of innovation to the market.

One of the most exciting parts about our work to bring the power of eye tracking to Esports is that we have just scratched the surface of the kinds of insight that gaze and attention awareness can give to competitive gamers. Every day we are exploring new possibilities, talking to more pros, and thinking up ways to provide more intelligence to players who want every edge they can find to level up their game.
